Privacy policy
Ream processes the contents of PDF, Word, image and OCR files on your device. Document contents are not uploaded to Ream or Google for advertising. The Android app uses Google AdMob for banner ads on the Tools and Recents discovery screens and Google User Messaging Platform (UMP) for required privacy choices.
Documents and recent files
Selected files, generated documents and recent-file history are processed locally. Ream does not send document contents, extracted text, filenames or recent-file history to its developer. The local library retains copies subject to available device storage. If a copy cannot be retained, Ream asks you to save the result before leaving.
Advertising and analytics
The Android app includes the Google Mobile Ads SDK and UMP. Google may receive online identifiers (including advertising identifiers where available), IP address, device and app information, consent choices, diagnostics, and ad interaction data to provide, limit, measure, secure, and personalize advertising as permitted by your choices and applicable law. Because the selected audience includes teenagers and there is no age screen, Ream marks every ad and consent request as under the age of consent and limits ad content to Google's General category. Ream does not mark the app as directed to children under 13. Ream does not send document contents, filenames, extracted text, passwords, or recent-file history to the advertising SDK.
Ads are limited to the Tools and Recents discovery screens. They are removed from Settings, the reader, scanning, every tool and result flow, incoming-file choices, and save/download controls. If consent information is unavailable, permission to request ads is absent, the device is offline, or an ad fails to load, document tools continue without an ad or reserved blank space.
Where Google requires a privacy-options entry point, Settings shows Advertising privacy choices. Google provides and processes that form. See Google's Privacy Policy and How Google uses information for advertising.
Automatic app updates
OTA-enabled Android builds contact GitHub to check for and download signed app updates. GitHub receives ordinary request information such as your IP address, plus the update channel and native version in the download URL. Ream does not send an installation identifier, document contents, filenames or recent-file history with these requests. Updates download in the background and apply on the next app launch. Offline document tools remain usable without an update connection.
Camera and file access
Camera access is requested for scanning. You can use the system gallery instead. The system file picker, incoming Android shares, and the save/share sheet grant access to files you choose. Ream does not request broad storage or photo-library access.
Save, share and external links
The document provider or app you select receives the file you save or share and handles it under its own terms. Opening the support repository or a hosted web version contacts that website; its hosting provider may receive ordinary request information, such as your IP address. These external services operate separately from local document processing in the Android app.
Retention and deletion
You can delete individual files in Recents or clear the local library from Settings. Uninstalling the Android app or clearing its app data removes its private local storage. Temporary import/export copies are cleaned up after use or expire. Files already exported to other locations remain there until you delete them separately. Closing a screen does not erase copies already saved or shared.
Security
Android cloud backup is disabled for Ream app data, and the app disables cleartext network traffic. Local copies rely on your device's security; use a screen lock and choose trusted share destinations. Password protection applies to the PDF you protect and does not encrypt every file in the local library.
Your choices
- Process documents offline; ads and consent updates may be unavailable while offline without blocking tools.
- Use the advertising privacy action in Settings when Google requires it.
- Use Android's advertising controls, including deleting or resetting the advertising ID where supported.
- Choose gallery images if you do not want to grant camera access.
- Rename, export or delete local files from Recents.
- Clear the local library from Settings.
